Overview

Aretum is seeking a motivated Federal Lease Accountant SME to join DHS project. Must have a good understanding of Federal accounting specifically with leases and the ability to prepare white papers, REMS, end to end SFFAS 54 implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Review methodology white paper and supporting calculations for embedded lease reporting threshold
  • Monthly tracker of analyzed contracts, decision justification, and supporting documents for embedded lease reporting threshold analysis
  • Position papers as needed to support SFFAS 54 implementation and address audit inquiries
  • Successfully communicate the positions when defending TSA’s methodologies in meetings with the OIG and financial statements auditors. Communication between the contractor and the parties mentioned above will occur at various phases of the audit lifecycle and will require written communication (e.g., email correspondence, memorandums, and discussion papers) and virtual meetings to discuss and resolve issues pertaining to SFFAS 54 compliance.
  • Working with the contract support requirements established in Task 6.8—Federal GAAP Compliance Support, prepare white papers and apply internal control risk assessments as needed to position TSA’s SFFAS 54 approach and processes to stand up to audit scrutiny
  • Prepare procedures to cover end‐to‐end SFFAS 54 accounting and reporting beginning with the right-to‐use data extraction and ending with the manual journal entry that is compliant with ISOP 5001—Manual Journal Entry (JE) Process.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10+ years of federal accounting
  • Minimum of 10+ years of federal lease accounting
  • Strong background in financial reporting with a thorough understanding of lease accounting principles- specifically SFFAS 54 or ASC 842
  • Proficiency in contract analysis with the ability to identify lease elements.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and the ability to produce clear, concise, and well organized documents.
  • Experience strategizing audit risk mitigation and operating mult layered operational organizations that may require persuasion techniques.
